Heat detectors are used in places where smoke detectors give too much risk of false alarms. This is mainly in rooms where (water) vapours and a lot of dust can be present, for example in the kitchen, bathroom and garage. Heat detectors will sound the alarm when they the temperature in the room exceeds a pre-set value, so you can react quickly if a fire breaks out.
